I am very pleased to share that I have successfully completed the Aspiring Board Members Programme 2025–2026, delivered by the Welsh Government in partnership with NHS Wales.
This has been a truly valuable and inspiring leadership development journey, with a strong focus on governance, strategic thinking, public service leadership, and the importance of diverse voices in shaping the future of NHS Wales and wider public services.
For me, one of the most meaningful aspects of the programme was its focus on supporting people from ethnic minority communities to develop as future leaders. This feels especially important at a time when Wales is becoming increasingly diverse, and when our public services need leadership that understands, reflects and listens to the communities they serve.
Throughout the programme, I had the opportunity to reflect more deeply on what good leadership really means. Not only decision-making, but responsibility, inclusion, accountability, listening, and serving communities with integrity.
As a clinician, I found the programme especially meaningful. It helped me think more broadly about how clinical experience, lived experience, cultural understanding, and community insight can all contribute to better governance and more compassionate public services.
I have learned a great deal from the sessions, the discussions, the reflections, the people involved, and the wider vision behind the programme.
A sincere thank you to everyone involved in coordinating and supporting this programme, and to the Welsh Government, NHS Wales and Academi Wales for investing in leadership that reflects the diversity, strengths and aspirations of the communities we serve.
Feeling grateful, inspired, and motivated to continue learning and contributing.
